The beach bar on “our” beach in Tinos: character and great cocktails
Από την Denny Kallivoka
Tinos is a wonderful island. And I came to love it like my own homeland. Our house is on Rochari beach—a beach I remember, from my first visit fifteen years ago, as calm and quiet.
For twelve summers now, the beach has been synonymous with Alohari, the beach bar run by Manos and Stefanos: a relaxed, boho spot with lovely aesthetics and real quality in both drinks and the snacks it serves.

From the very first year, the cocktail list has been curated by Ilias Stergiopoulos, an excellent bartender who spent many years at Baba au Rum. The menu balances tropical tiki, contemporary mezcal culture and beloved classics, all with the freshness you want when you’re right by the waves.

What to choose:
- Hotel Nacional: rum, lime, pineapple and a light touch of peach and white vermouth—elegant and absolutely seaside.
- Mai Tai: the classic tiki, in a beautifully balanced rendition.
- Rochari Spicy: spicy and refreshing, with ginger, lime and hints of allspice— inspired by the beach itself.
- Picador: one of the list’s most contemporary and daring drinks, with mezcal, blanco tequila, lime, salt and apricot—a cocktail with body and a smoky finish.
- Zombie: tiki with five different rums, passion fruit, lemon and bitters—one of the most complex and potent options.
- Pisco Swizzle: a playful take on a pisco punch, with passion fruit, fortified wine, pineapple and lime—ideal for golden hour.
- St-Germain Spritz and Gin Basil Smash for those seeking something cooler, lighter and aromatic.
- Paloma: the classic, well made.
Execution is consistent, flavours are well-structured—nothing showy, nothing left to chance.

On the food side, Aris Roussos and the Serial Eaters team offer tacos (try the pulled pork), jerk chicken, ceviche and salads with fruit and coriander—dishes designed to support the bar rather than overshadow it.

For those avoiding alcohol, the list includes freshly squeezed juices (orange, mixed seasonal, or a detox green with spinach and cucumber) as well as refreshing mocktails like the Rochari Red Sunset (banana, strawberry, lime, berries) and the Yellow Speed with orange, carrot, red apple and ginger—choices made with freshness and thought.

If you’re in Tinos and what you want is a laid-back beach bar with great cocktails, you’ll like Alohari. Note that the beach catches the north wind, but in that case there are windbreak nets that temper its force.
