For years, 1930 Milano stood among the world’s most iconic speakeasy bars, and in 2025 it ranks No. 43 on The World’s 50 Best Bars list. To find it, you first had to stop by Mag Café, ask for “more information,” and only if the team decided you fit the bar’s concept and aesthetic were you discreetly guided into the mystical basement that housed one of Europe’s most award-winning cocktail programs.

But since January, 1930 has entered a new chapter. Now located in the basement of Mag La Pusterla, in the center of Milan, the bar has surprisingly made its address public for the very first time. The space is smaller, yet brimming with even more character: vintage furniture, warm low lighting, a 1930s atmosphere, and music that instantly transports you to an era of effortless elegance. It’s the perfect setting for winter nights in the city.

While the bar continues to offer an extensive selection of aged spirits, Champagnes, and cigars, the real intrigue lies in the direction of its signature cocktail menu—one that resembles a restaurant tasting menu more than a traditional drinks list. Divided into starters, first courses, mains, and desserts, the menu blends gastronomy with bartending in a bold, eccentric way, clearly aimed at drinkers who appreciate umami driven and savory profiles. Among the offerings: pizza marinara, sushi, ravioli, and even tacos de carnita reimagined as cocktails—a creation that has quickly become the new 1930’s best seller.

From what I tasted, I would return in a heartbeat for the flawless Caviar Martini and the clever Pina Colada topped with Parmesan foam. Of course, all the classics are still available for those who wouldn’t trade their Negroni for anything.

At the heart of the new 1930 is Benjamin Cavagna, the ever-perfect host, whose presence ensures that the bar’s elegant guests feel less like visitors to a globally celebrated venue and more like friends gathered in an intimate living room.
